First Meeting of Fall 2016 | Thursday, September 14th, 2017 from 5:00PM to 6:00PM
We will host our first official meeting for the Fall 2017 semester for current and new potential members. We will have an overview of our mission and goals for the semester, as well as go over the upcoming calendar events. We will also have applications for new members. Location: Vivian Engineering Center [VEC] - Room 127 at California State University, Long Beach Result: We had a total of twelve new members sign-up for our chapter during the First Meeting of Fall 2016 semester. Résumé Workshop Meeting | Thursday, September 28th, 2017 from 4:00PM to 5:00PM We will have our meeting to focus on sprucing up our members' résumés for our upcoming company informational sessions and recruiting. Location: Vivian Engineering Center [VEC] - Room 127 at California State University, Long Beach Result: We had members come out to spruce up their résumés. This workshop was a success with new member sign-ups. |

Location: Vivian Engineering Center [VEC] - Room 321 at California State University, Long Beach Result: We had industry members from Clark Construction come out to hold a great information session and collected résumés from many interested students. We are excited and look forward to having them come out again next year. Ledcor Construction | Thursday, October 13th, 2016 from 4:00PM to 6:00PM Ledcor is a diversified construction company, made up of teams of people who are proven in their industries-all working to design, build, transport, operate, and maintain projects all over North America. Ledcor is about people and the power of partnerships-partnerships with their employees, our communities, our contractors, and clients. Ledcor is looking for Summer 2017 interns and project engineering positions for graduating seniors for their San Diego, Irvine, Napa Valley, and Las Vegas offices. Ledcor will hold interviews directly following their information session on our campus. Location: Social Sciences/Public Administration [SS/PA] - Room 109 at California State University, Long Beach Result: We had Ledcor Construction come out to speak about the type of projects and culture the company has to offer to potential interns for the Summer of 2017. The event was a success with up to twenty students showing up to show interest in Ledcor. We look forward to having them come out again next year. Griffith Company | Thursday, October 20, 2016 from 5:00PM to 6:30PM Since its inception over a century ago, Griffith Company has maintained a reputation as a full-service contractor, dedicated to delivering on their promises. Griffith Company will come out to hold an information session on campus for potential recruitment. Location: Social Sciences/Public Administration [SS/PA] - Room 112 at California State University, Long Beach Result: We had Griffith Company come out and had a wonderful informational session. Griffith spoke about the culture and competitiveness of the company and the opportunities for potential Summer interns and full-time engineering positions. We look forward to working with them again for years to come. Boeing Company | Monday, October 24, 2016 from 4:00PM to 6:00PM This event will be for an information session for recruitment hosted by the CMAA Student Chapter at Long Beach State for Boeing. Boeing from Huntington Beach is coming out to talk about their company and will follow-up with interviews for job opportunities for the students in our Construction Engineering Management department. Location: Health & Human Services 1 [HHS1] - Room 204 at California State University, Long Beach Result: The Boeing Company came out to Long Beach State to hold an informational session for our Construction Engineering Management students and we had mixed results. Boeing is looking to recruit Summer 2017 interns for their construction division and our students were confused as to what the position entails. The recruiters weren't sure of the experience our construction students will be involved in during the internship and we hope to work with them again once they figure out a clear path for students in construction with their company goals. We are hoping to work with them again in the future. Annual CMAA Hiring Fair | Wednesday, October 26, 2016 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM The annual Hiring Fair for the Construction Management Association of America is back for the Fall semester of 2016 ! Last year, twenty-five sponsoring firms and agencies participated with over 100 students from local universities, including University of Southern California, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Northridge, Cal State Fullerton, Loyola Marymount, and Long Beach State. Just to name a few, past exhibistors have included AECOM, Drover, Helsel Phelps, Jacobs Engineering, PCL Construction, Penhall, Port of Long Beach, Turner, Webcor, and Whiting-Turner Contracting. Willow St., Long Beach, CA 90815 Result: The turnout at the Annual CMAA Job Fair was amazing for the students from the Construction Engineering Management department at Long Beach State. Go Beach ! |
CMIT Study Session | Saturday, November 5th, 2016 from 12:00PM to 4:00PM
In preparation for our bi-annual CMIT Exam Day, qualified members will be tutored by the President of the CMAA Student Chapter who is a certified Construction Manager in Training [CMIT]. Location: Vivian Engineering Center [VEC] - Room 302 at California State University, Long Beach Result: The study session for the CMIT Exam was a success with ten students coming out to prep for the CMIT Exam Day. LEED Green Associates Training Course | Monday, November 7th, 2016 from 6:00PM to 10:00PM In an ever-changing world with global warming and new infrastructures constantly being built, it is more important than ever for builders to be cautious and be environmentally friendly. With the help of Lorne Mlotek, President of LeadingGreen Training and Consulting, Inc., the CMAA Student Chapter will host a LEED Green Associates exam training event. Lorne earned his undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Toronto. With exceptional qualifications, Lorne boasts a 100% pass rate for all the students that have taken the LEED Green Associates exam after completing his training course. We will hold a one-day training course for interested CMAA members to receive this training before taking their LEED Green Associates exam. CMIT Exam Day | Saturday, November 12th, 2016 from 8:00AM to 12:00PM The Construction Manager in Training [CMIT] is a certification awarded to qualified individuals who pass the CMIT Exam by the national CMAA organization. Individuals who are CMIT can potentially become a Certified Construction Manager [CCM] in the future. In association with the national CMAA organization and Cole Leslie, Project Engineer at Driver SPG, the bi-annual CMIT Exam Day will be hosted by the CMAA Student Chapter. We boast a 100% CMIT Exam pass rate from the Spring 2016 semester. Location: Vivian Engineering Center [VEC] - Room 321 at California State University, Long Beach Result: With a 90% pass rate for the Fall 2016 CMIT Exam Day, we were successful in producing more qualified students from our department to go out seeking jobs with this new certification. |
